THE COUNTER

This is completely unrelated to anime, but I happen to have a very tiny appetite.  It is such a tiny appetite that I can skip breakfast, eat lunch, and possibly not eat dinner and be perfectly ok.  For human beings that is pretty bad, and is probably the number one reason why I am super skinny (not like a skeleton but fairly bony in my opinion).  Despite this though, once a week I meet up with my friend and sometimes friends every Wednesday.  We do this thing where each week we take turns paying for each others meals, and the other rule is that we can order whatever we want without worrying about the price.  This one week my friend introduced me to this place in Burbank called "The Counter" which is a "make your own" Hamburger place.  For some reason I was feeling more hungry or rather more willing to try eating more food than I usually ever would.  Mind you, when I feel "hungry" its still a small meal no matter how hungry my body claims to be, but this time was just different... I ordered a hamburger that was 1 lb after cooking topped with a two kinds of egg, black forest ham, tomatoes and pickles and just pure messy meat cooked medium rare.  I fucking ate ALL of it, even the waitress commented on the amazing feat.  There are probably tons of big guys and maybe some small guys out there, but for me this was probably a feat that I could only ever do once in a life time and that was fucking awesome.

Also the ending to Kyokai no Kanata was out today and was just all kinds of "what is going on!?".  It was mostly KABOOM AAAAAAAAAAA EXPLOSION FLYING WHAAA GYAAA KYAAAA $%fv%$87&#!!!!!  and then a unexplained something after the problem was over...  If any of you saw the ending and thought that final bit was a certainly strange just do a simple golf clap to yourself.  However I think every moment leading up to this point was great watching and the story was very interesting, maybe the animators weren't sure about what to do with an epic ending so they threw together shit that looked awesome, who knows.  Kyokai no Kanata probably earns 75 points for me and I would definitely tell anyone who loves girls with glasses to watch it, because it has a girl with glasses, a girl with glasses. (its important so I said it twice)

Samurai Flamenco is Kick Ass! (sorta)

This show is literally Kick Ass!... like the film Kick Ass, but that isn't to say this is pretty kick ass in its own way too.  The story takes off with a nice touch of naivety, and a really weird way of initiating your own courage for something your passionate about, the main character Hazama Masayoshi becomes Samurai Flamenco!  He dons a suit and takes off fighting crime little by little doing what he believes is right.  Naturally he doesn't have any super powers and is physically a normal person, but even then he slowly overcomes all limits and even powers up here and there becoming more like an actual hero.  A police officer whose name I can't remember but I know is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki from Gintama) finds out Samumenco's identity and becomes a close friend and support for our hero wanabe since fighting crime in a suit like your some crazy person is probably very very discouraging and very ill advised.

Eventually more super hero like people join the cast and the city becomes more and more a safe place.  It would appear that the effort Samumenco and his friends put in is slowly making a change happen for the better in the city.  I recently saw the latest episode ( which is episode 7 at the time of this post ) and it was very traumatic O_o.  Something very impossible happens and I literally jumped from my seat shouting "WAT!?" with a shocked face (probably a shocked face).  I don't want to spoil it for anyone so just letting you know that episode 7 is the "trauma" ep should suffice for now.  However for any of you who have seen it and know what I'm talking about, I personally hope that the show doesn't decide to stay in that knee deep lake of "sudden plot twist" because the plot twist in question was too much WAT and not OH MY GOD or anything like that.  Go back to the Samumenco I know!!!  I will be following this show very closely and post more thoughts on this at another time.

Also to my imaginary audience who is not reading this blog (because I never really told anyone about this blog so absolutely NO ONE is reading this) sorry for not posting for over a week, I straight up forgot to make a post because I was too busy playing smite.  I will make a stronger attempt to post at least within three days for better consistency go me!

Scientia is making science

A looooong time ago like 6 months maybe? I found a manga by the title of Scientia.  It was really fucking interesting...  sadly there is just such a mix of things I want to say but am not able to describe properly about what the manga is about.  Briefly its about a city that has forgotten ethical taboo's and enjoys a life with clones, body swapping, and drugs.  I like to imagine its basically a world where perhaps if said drug wasn't abused this could happen.  Or if cloning wasn't an invasion of the so called "gods territory" maybe something like this is possible.  If love potions could be used this way.  Lots of "what if"s its really interesting.  Perhaps the concept of the work in general is very dark and twisted somehow, but most certainly not in a negative light.  For as dark as it gets it brings you to a new place, and after feeling really insecure and scared for most of each chapter you are suddenly awakened to something much more significant.  At least that's how I felt while reading the manga.

There are only 7 chapters and each chapter is worthy of being a short one-shot, but they all take place in the same city and time.  There are no repeating characters so each character is basically unique to that chapter specifically.  Each character faces problems with the heart, you could say they're falling apart emotionally.  In the first chapter you have a girl who wants to die because she has nothing to look forward to, however by renting her body to someone who wishes to experience one last thing they cannot do in their own body she comes to a realization that maybe there is something in life she can look forward to after all.  The second chapter grabs my attention more than the first chapter.  Its about a man who just like the first chapter feels like hes missing something in life.  He wants to experience what falling in love is like, but has also become tired of the subject in general... he's just not feeling it.  So he turns to a drug that can "make you feel like your in love" its literally a love pill, but instead of using it on someone he uses it on himself.  Could you imagine what crazy shit might happen if love pills like that actually existed? people might technically get away with rape for a lot longer than they should...

One of the things I like about this manga is that it makes me think more about the topic of each chapter.  Its also controversial, very controversial in fact, each topic seems to pose enough potential for debate.  In the end was it human effort that saved each character? Or were they simply taking the easy way out?  A lot of people in life seem to be trying to find meaning in their existence, or having a meaningful life (whatever that means), or straight up look for ways to have a happy life.  Some of us become the "winners" and become very wealthy with much to spare for their future.  Some live a mediocre life never having too little or too much.  Some of us less fortunate, and were all seeking ways to become happy.  How much effort do we put to be able to enjoy certain things later?  I've kind of derailed from this point, but I think this manga really does pose questions like that and that they are all things people really should think about more.  Especially our younger generation, seeing as they are pretty much the future of our world, it would be nice if they had some more praiseworthy answers to life than our current adults do.

Anyways it probably sounds like I'm typing a bunch of random nonsense at this point, but please go read Scientia, its a work of genius if I may say so myself.

Witch Craft Works TV series airs December 29th

I read a comic called "Witch Craft Works" and although the updates are fucking slower than anything else on the earth on mangafox I really like the manga.  There's all this strange shit happening in the background and each panel has like a trillion things to look at, in other words the art style is really fun to stare at.  So then ANN announced that Witch Craft Works is getting a TV series and will air on the 29th of December which is great news for me since that basically means the manga I like is popular enough to get an anime (does that mean I have good taste?)

When I saw this poster I was really relieved somehow, because in the manga all the females have ridiculously large boobs.  Like just these huge jugs, its fucken unnatural, and even the flat chested girls seemed to have correctly proportioned boobs and was just called flat chested.  Suddenly gave a new meaning to bust size and I kind of didn't like that.  That's not to say I don't like Big boobs, but I don't like unnaturally big boobs, which isn't to say I want to put my hands on a... Anyways what I mean to say is that it seems like in the anime the absurd boobs thing will not be absurd anymore!  While certainly there are a whole bunch of girls with very large breasts here its not as absurd as in the comic where the bust size was just more ginormous in all sorts of ways and actually anime girls in general always have impossible breast sizes anyways so what the fuck am I saying.  In fact the reason why I read this manga in the first place wasn't because of the boobs, but because the story had a really hilarious opening.

For those of you who don't know what this manga is about the story literally starts off with the main character being assaulted by some witches who demand he hand over his "white stuff".  When our distressed and confused (male) main character asks what they mean by "white stuff" they correct themselves and say "Hand over your seed!" causing even more confusion.  Naturally "white stuff" followed by "seed" in that order obviously does not mean anything sexual or perverted or have anything to do with that nor imply all of that because totally "white stuff" and "seed" are terms used by witches when referring to magic related shit.  The main character is then thrown into a world where two factions of witches (and rarely wizards) are fighting to obtain his "white stuff" whatever that may be.

For any of you who love ginormous boobs this series is totally for you! For any of you who really love fan service with all the stripping and exploding clothing and stuff, this is probably not for you.  Strangely enough with boobs as large as theirs I saw not very much nudity or any at all, and even though tons of explosions and buildings and cities get destroyed throughout the story there are like zero deaths so the manga in general is not very violent.  The content is also pretty cute and its got a really nice mystery element to it since no one really knows what this "white stuff" is, and just that bit of mystery element is something I like a lot so just shut up and check this series out!

Kiki's Delivery Service is getting a live action film O_o

So I'm at work being bored as hell and I check out some news online.  Kiki's Delivery Service is getting a live action film it seems.  This sort of scares me because live action films usually just suck if they're coming from an anime and especially a Studio Ghibli film.  Kiki's Delivery service by Miyazaki was actually based of a series of children's literature written by Eiko Kadono.  There are supposed to be 7 volumes of these novels and the animated film by Miyazaki is based on the first book.  The live action film is based off the first two books and will probably deviate from the Miyazaki film a lot.  Though I'm pretty sure they creators want the film to be compared to the books, everyone is going to compare it to the Miyazaki version all the way lol.
It seems filming wrapped up in July 2013 and the film will be released march 2014.
Funny thing, when I first read up about this on ANN I was for some reason expecting Jiji the cat to be CG... like for no reason too.  I just expected it to be CG and I had no reason whatsoever to be thinking that, so imagine my supprise when I saw the movie poster of Kiki and Jiji who... is a real cat... No duh its a real cat!  Of course they would use a real cat why the hell did I think they would use a CG one!?

So I started watching Kyoukai no Kanata

So Kyoto Animation released this new series called Kyoukai no Kanata.  They usually do slice of life stuff like K-On or Hyouka nothing too intense, but Kyoukai no Kanata is pretty over the top.  Just a lot of really good animation and directing going on, all the scenes are really cool to watch and its really a different feel from the usual pattern that Kyoto Animation has its great.  The story of Kyoukai no Kanata comes from a light novel by Nagomu Torii, which btw Kyoto Animation is also the publisher of said novel.  Currently there are three volumes for the light novel and the third volume was released very recenntly, October 2nd I believe.

Kyoukai no Kanata

The show is about Akihito Kanbara who notices that a student at his school is trying to commit suicide and rushes to the roof to save her.  The person in question is a megane bishoujo named Mirai Kuriyama who looks really nice in glasses and wears glasses.  When Kanbara tries to stop her from killing herself she suddenly stabs Kanbara right through his heart with a sword made from her own blood and to her shock discovers that Kanbara is a immortal "half-youmu".  Youmu refer to creatures regular humans cannot see and are comparable to youkai or something more dangerous.  Kanbaru learns that Mirai is a Youmu hunter and the last surviving member of her Youmu hunting clan, from there their lives become intertwined as Kanbara seeks to help Mirai gain the confidence to kill Youmu so that she may stop attempting to kill him as practice.

So far there are only 4 episodes and I don't have much to say yet about the story as a whole, but each episode so far has been really exciting.  First the fighting scenes, there are a lot of awesome martial artsy what is going on!? kind of fighting going on which is just really cool to look at.  Second there is this mystery element to it where your not fully aware of the situation at hand but grasp whats happening as it goes along which is nice in my opinion because I start to want to know more things and keep watching to get my questions answered.  Overall the animation is amazing and really pushed to the front compared to the other works Kyoto Animation has done, you get to see more of what their animation skills are like so in a way its like seeing what this studio has to offer when they show off a little.  Most importantly one of the main characters is wearing glasses.  Most importantly one of the main characters is wearing glasses.  It's important so I said it twice, banzai for clumsy expert Youmu warrior with glasses!

Since there isn't a lot of content yet as there are only 4 episodes I haven't really had the chance to think about the story as a whole yet.  So far I think its really interesting and there seem to be a lot of background details to the whole thing that you have to take into consideration.  Each character seems to be a lot of work in general, but some people don't like that.  I guess because it might seem like the story is beating around the bush before reaching an important point.  Another thing is there are actually too many things to ask questions about which could also not work for some people.  There are too many characters who are too mysterious and we were just introduced too many of them to keep track of their damn names @_@.  Other than that I can't really find anything bad to say about the show, then again its really hard to say negative things about something you like a lot :s overall I would recommend it to anyone who is after a story content heavy series this season.

Kill La Kill vs Kyoukai no Kanata by oinario

Kill La Kill... holy shit!

So a new animation studio called Trigger just started their very first TV series called Kill La Kill.  I must say its fucking bad ass!  The animation is great, the story if tons of fun, and everything about it is just huge and epic!
Studio Trigger is founded by former Gainax employees Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Ohtsuka.  To give you an idea they worked on stuff like Gurren Lagann and Neon Genesis Evangelion.  They worked on some animation shorts like Little Witch Academia (2013) and Little Witch Academia (2014) which was funded by kickstarter, but anyways back to Kill La Kill.

The story takes place at a school called Honnouji Gakuen which takes place in what seems to be a post-apocalyptic Japan.  The school is dominated by the student council led by Satsuki Kiryuin.  The council members wear special uniforms called Goku Seifuku or Goku Uniforms that grant them superhuman powers, which they use to oppress the entire school (staff included).  One day a transfer student Ryuko Matoi comes to the school with a large half scissor-shaped longsword in search of the owner of the other half of the scissor who killed her father.  Since it seems like the student council leader Satsuki seems to know something about the large half scissor weapon Matoi challenges her right from the get go, but faces defeat almost immediately due to not having a goku uniform.  After retreating to her fathers home she discovers in the basement a set of clothing called Kamui, meaning god cloth, which grants her unbelievable powers in exchange for sucking her blood...

So far there are only three episodes out at the moment and they're all really great to watch.  The animation is top notch and will probably remind anyone who watches it of Gurren Lagann right away.  Trigger really took the extra mile to add to each and every frame per second.  The characters are really like-able and so loud that everything they say and do stands out in your brain and lingers there for a really long time.  The series in general is very epic and huge... just everything is supersized for your eyes to explode on.  When I saw the third episode I was literally on fire!... no seriously, I was sweating in my chair with my eyes wide I thought I was going to die watching this episode. That's how fucking amazing this shit is right now!  Stop reading this and go fucking watch it!

Oh right some disclaimers not everything is just awesome and only that.  First off maybe not age appropriate there is some nude transformation scenes going on, kind of like sailor moon, and the outfit they change into is very flashy.  Massive underboob, DAT ASS. lots of panty shots.  To say the least its a little vulgar, but that's also part of the show too :p.  Also the show is really random, some people might not be a fan of that and as far as the randomness goes its not on the level of Nichijou but its certainly very random.  Also the story is not very dominant.  It IS about the girl looking for the killer of her father but the side quests just have so much attention to me, but not so much that I'm forgetting what the story is about, but for some of you looking for a very detailed background story might not get all dem specifics and whatnot.  None of these downpoints are really that negative to me though, at least for my taste.
